Arcon Training Center is one of the first facilities in the US markets offering Global Wind Organization (GWO) Basic Safety Training (BST) courses and refresher courses for onshore and offshore wind in the areas of Working at Heights (WAH), Manual Handling (MH), First Aid (FA), Fire Awareness (FAW), and Sea Survival (SS).
In August 2021 the Maryland Energy Administration announced $400k in grant money towards the addition of Basic Technical Training (BTT) which is projected to begin in 2022.
In 2014, Arcon Welding Services, now Arcon Training Center was awarded a grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to open a welding training center here in Salisbury, Maryland, to prepare for the numerous offshore wind opportunities that are emerging in our region. Since then, Arcon Training Center has partnered with Quality Staffing Services and WorWic Community College, as well as, applied for and received additional funding from the Maryland EARN (Employment Advancement Right Now) Grant which allows opportunities for low-cost training to all our students.
Our welding class is a 18-week course that runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. In this class you will learn 4 processes: Stick, Tig, Mig and Flux Core welding.
To date we have graduated 125 students leading to job placement across many industries including energy, shipbuilding, steel, and metalworking.
In March of 2018, Arcon Training Center was awarded a grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to add Metal Fabrication training as one of the courses offered. Due to the offshore wind opportunities that are coming to our region, there is an enormous need for experienced individuals in both Metal Fabrication and Welding.
This program is also currently funded by the Maryland EARN (Employment Advancement Right Now) Grant, and just like our welding program, it allows low-cost training to all our students.
